How do I create a life resume?
Unlike a typical resume that looks back into your past, the life resume looks forward into the future. It shows you are on track for achieving your goals and proves that you’re capable of doing so.
It will document all of your experiences, including full and part-time jobs, summer and volunteer positions, fieldwork and special projects. It will include any educational and professional experiences you’ve had as well as any certifications or licenses that you’ve obtained. It will also include all of your personal development experiences (like travel, goal setting and new skills) as well as any hobbies or passions you’ve developed.
When creating a life resume, you’ll want to be as detailed as possible. However, it’s important to keep in mind that this document will likely run over a page, so you’ll need to be selective about what to include. Be sure to save your work on multiple computers, external hard drives and in a self-addressed email so that you don’t lose it.
What are the steps to create a life resume?
The first step is to look through your personal possessions and start compiling photos, educational and professional papers (even applications that were rejected or were not accepted – it’s all relevant). This process will take days, weeks or months depending on how much time you can devote.
Next, you should begin logging everything you’ve done. This includes full-time and part-time jobs, internships, fieldwork, special projects and volunteer positions. Document each experience in reverse chronological order, highlighting specific accomplishments that demonstrate your skills and competencies.
Also, include all hobbies and passions that have made you a better person and contributed to your life journey. Avoid listing casual interests like napping, watching reality TV or gossiping as they do not contribute to your overall growth. Lastly, write down any new goals or objectives that you want to achieve in your life. This will help you create a plan to reach them and will prove that you are capable of achieving what you set your mind to.
What are the benefits of creating a life resume?
